it's been awhile
Over two months to be precise.
The adjustment back into the US (at the end of August) wasn't too bad. Although, having a five hour layover at Ohare on my way home was enough culture shock for anyway. I spent the entire time wandering around in a daze talking to myself. Thankfully it was busy enough that no one paid any attention to me. The flight home was made much more tolerable than it could have been by being upgraded to business class. The food was great, the seats were comfy, and they even gave us Bose noise-canceling headphones to use. It was really sweet. (My brother P, on hearing the news of my upgrade, wasn't as impressed since our seats didn't lie down flat. Of course, he gets to fly first class regularly.)
Anyway, since I got back my life has been taken over by E. coli. It's my first real outbreak investigation and I'm the lead for the investigation in Utah (Which is actually meaningful since we have the third highest number of cases in the country and are one of three states doing a case-control study. I've even gotten on TV. Ah, another moment of fame.) I'm have a really fun time working on this and am learning a lot, but I'm working 12 hour days, 7 days a week and it's beginning to get a little old. Hopefully things will calm down in the next week or two (but I said that a week ago and it hasn't gotten any better.)
By the way, a couple of people have commented about how I didn't talk about my work at all on my India blog. I was told, nicely, that it would be better if I didn't discuss my work on a public blog. And since I'd given that website out to various people from work, I kind of had to abide by that request. Sadly, I am too tired at the moment to write anything about work stuff right now, so that will have to wait for future posts.
More later.
