Appalled

For some random reason I decided to research Kettle Chips. The first place I went to was wikipedia (or course) and I found the following entry.

"In October 2007, campaigns were launched on popular networking site Facebook calling for a boycott of Kettle Foods products[4] following allegations that the company was attempting to dissuade workers at its Norwich factory from joining trade union Unite. The company refutes the claim but admits that it has taken advice from Omega Training,[5] a UK subsidiary of U.S. company The Burke Group, specialists in union avoidance."

My curiosity was piqued by this so I promptly did a search for "The Burke Group." Sadly there was no wikipedia entry, but I did find their website.

It turns my stomach. The "testimony" on the front page just made me sick. And I shouldn't be surprised that there are consulting firms that specialize in things like this, but I was.

Exhausted

I'm currently in the Portland airport waiting for a flight home to Anchorage. I've been here for the past week participating in an emergency response exercise and I'm just tired. I've mostly been on the night shift, working from 6pm to 10am, helping to coordinate between the feds and the oregon health department. It was a good experience and we identified various issues that we now have the chance to fix before a real emergency. But, I'm still tired.

I get to relax this weekend, then it's off to Seattle on Monday, back on Tuesday. Meetings the rest of the week in Anchorage and then flying to Atlanta on Sunday. I'm just the travel-bunny!
